Multiforms are carrying out the façade works of the Air Traffic Control Tower of Muscat Airport and Construction Week has a project update report…
The new passenger terminal under construction at Muscat International Airport (MIA) is expected to be completed by 2014. It will be able to handle 12m passengers a year.
"The expanded airport will keep pace with the economic growth of the country," said HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications.
Work on the passenger terminal building complex and the civil aviation headquarters is being carried out in phases. "There will be scope for further expansion in three subsequent phases, which will ultimately boost the airport's passenger handling capacity to 24m, 36m and 48m respectively," said Al Futaisi.
The new terminal building will cover an area of 334,995m2, with parking for 8,000 cars. "The airport will also boast the tallest structure in Oman, the 97m air-traffic control tower, which will be able to function even in adverse weather conditions," he added.
The tower that Multiforms are carrying out the facade works for is located to the south of the new passenger terminal west pier and linked to the terminal building by a glazed bridge link.
